What exactly is an “Omicron strain”?

As of February 2022, the coronavirus is still spreading nationwide.
Also known as the Sixth Wave, it has spread the infection on an unprecedented scale and is increasing the number of newly infected people.

Why is it called “Omicron strain” in the first place?
“Omicron” is the 15th Greek letter.
In front of “Omicron”, there are the letters “New (ν)” and “Kusai (ξ)”.
“New (ν)” is reminiscent of the English word “NEW”, and “kusai (ξ)” is written as “Xi” in the alphabet, but it was not used because it is a common surname.
In other words, the coronavirus has been mutated 13 times.

There are nine more Greek letters that haven’t been used yet.
It seems that it is being considered to use the name of “constellation” this time if the mutation is repeated further and all are used up.

With viruses, it is not possible to find a solution through discussions.
Let’s live our lives by paying attention to what we can do now, daily activities, hand washing / gargle, and avoiding the Three Cs.
